Recommendation No. 170 supplements the 1985 Convention on Labor Statistics and provides information on the frequency of statistical data collection and a list of classification characteristics for each type of statistical data. Thus, statistics on employment and unemployment should be classified by sex, age groups, branches of economic activity, occupational groups, geographical areas and status in employment. Current statistics on average earnings and average hours of work should be classified by economic activity, sex, size of enterprise and geographical area, as appropriate, and, if possible, by age group, occupational group or skill level. At least once every 5 years, data on the structure and distribution of wages and labor costs are collected.
